Worried about uploading my .CSV with some fields incorrect

@VisaLighting wrote:

I downloaded my warehouse's .CSV so I could edit the tags in bulk. I'm noticing now that the column "SketchUp Filename" is completely blank, even though I do have SketchUp files uploaded for every model. I've also noticed that the "Information URL" column contains URLs that don't match the URLs I put into those models---for example, it shows my plain domain instead of the specific /products/productname navigation.

If I upload this CSV, will it make changes to things that were not edited by me on this file, or will it only change the tags that I edited? I have about 270 models, I want to be extremely careful about this.

17.01 Version Errors Opening Earlier Models from Warehouse

@rick149 wrote:

Each time I download from the warehouse I check the create and last edit dates first.
Often when the last edit date on the model is much earlier than 2016 I get a version error..

You have version 16.1.1450
You need version 17.01

even though the model was last edited in 2014 or maybe 2012
My PC is 32 bit so I cannot update to 17.01

Seems strange that so many models last edited much earlier than 2016 require v17.01

Any suggestions?

ps the date modified time stamp on the .skp file in windows is the current date (ie post 1/1/2017)

How to resize a ready 3D model's "panel thickness"

@bunyaminmd wrote:

Hi everyone. I am new here.

I wonder how to resize a panel thickness in a 3D model.

For example this cabinet: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/f4387f9b6a7c09bade650492e45fb14f/Tall-Cabinet-Open

Panel thickness is 19 mm in every panel. I want to resize it and make all panel thickness 18mm in this model.

I use tape measure tool and tried to resize one thickness but it did not effect neither that piece nor other ones.

What is the way? Thanks.

Suggestion for 3D Warehouse: 'Sort by Size'!

Would be VERY helpful to be able to sort by model size in the warehouse, especially for those quick study models (on quicker deadlines!) where I don’t want to get bogged down by the overall file size in rotating, rendering, exporting etc.

Thanks!

Spammers, Scammers, Hackers or Just Lurkers?

Okay, before I start, I’ve put this off for close to a year. I’ve also searched in every way I could think of - with no results. But now, my curiosity has gotten the best of me.

What purpose do people have for registering/joining the 3DWH, but do not create and upload any models?
1. You don’t have to be a member or signed in to cruise thru the 3DWH
2. You don’t have to be a member or signed in to d/l models
3. You don’t have to be a member or signed in to view models in the WebGL 3D Viewer

I have noticed that most of the people clicking the “like” on my models, have no models of their own. Some of them have collections of literally THOUSANDS of liked models. One has over 26,000 “liked” models - but none of his own. Nearly none of these people can be contacted. And one of them appears to be a professional of some sort.

One, who’s clicked the “like” on one of my models as recently as 15 July (has no models of his/her own), has links in his/her profile to FB, twitter and Linkedin - all of them lead to blank pages.

On the flip side, most of the warehousers who DO have their own models, CAN be contacted.

What gives with these people who lurk around in the warehouse clicking the “like” on peoples’ models?

I can’t help but wonder if some of them are gleaning models for use in activities for which they earn money, using models that were created in free versions of SU - something I, as the creator of those models, am not allowed do using a non-pro version of SU.

Question about licensing

@some wrote:

Hello there,
I’ve been hired to do a 3d model for a research project and only now at the end I start to realize I need permission from every developer. Now, most of these developers do not even share any contact details. I was wondering whether there is an easy fix for this because it basically means I have to throw out everything out of the window.

Please tell me that if the 3d model is only used within the research group itself it poses no problem. The model as a file will not be a public thing, although we do aim to publish papers about experiments that will happen within an export of the model in a game engine.

I have to say, although I have myself to blame, I find it very conflicting that you are allowed to use the 3d models for client work without any problem but as soon as you are doing something much more innocent you need permission, that just blows my mind. And it’s even more staggering that some of the authors are not even available to contact. If anything, you might want to consider a warning sign if this is the case.

What is your method for finding high quality models in The Warehouse?

@icapture wrote:

I seem to be spending more time than I think I should finding high quality models in The Warehouse. When staging an interior you have to find a lot of models and having to sort through tons of below average models really eats up my time.

I think my workflow would be much more efficient if I optimized this area of my practice.

How do you guys find the right, high quality, interior products (tables, sinks, washing machines, ect) for your architectural models?

The method I have been using to find high quality models is to search for an item, lets say “washing machine.” I then look for the highest quality one and click it. I then go to the bottom of the page and look at what “collection” it is a part of. This is usually a great place to find models of similar quality.

Please purge your models before uploading to 3D Warehouse!

@MobelDesign wrote:

I know that most of us are aware of this problem – that many Warehouse contributors don’t follow some of the basic modelling guidelines – it’s a problem that has been discussed before; I also know about the Certified Content Developer Program and other methods in place that attempt to curb the problem. But I found such an extreme example, I thought to share it here, and hopefully impress the importance of the concept on other new contributors’ minds.

I won’t share the identical model, cause I’m not trying to slam its author, I am just trying to illustrate a point. This simple hook showed up on the Warehouse page as 24.7 MB. I downloaded the file, assuming that the hook had been imported from a manufacturers model and had like 3,000-segment curves. Turned on hidden geometry, and the model was clean!

Well…until I checked out the Materials, Components, and Layers!

It’s crazy! Whoever posted it had been working with all sorts of downloaded models, and never purged before uploading the file. A simple Purge Unused brought it down to no materials, 1 layer, 3 components.

Fullscreen capture 08082017 205429

Now the file is 107 KB!

The moral: Always purge your files before uploading to 3D Warehouse.

Overview of statitics of all models

  1. As manufacturer of building materials, we have published our range of products in the 3D Warehouse. It are about 170 products. Is there a possibility to get an overview of the stats of all the products for our marketeers, instead of checking each product separately for there views and likes? It would be very helpful and interesting for us.

  2. Is there a possiblity to run a script over all our models, to put them in the same scene?

Thank you.

3D Warehouse Search Engines

@shiromiano wrote:

Hello everyone, I’ve been using the warehouse for many years, I used the site when it was cooperated with google, but now I can notice a big change in the quality of search engines used in the current site, there are all models you need about any subject but you simply can’t reach them, when you search for a specific items you’d simply get like 50% - 75% completely unrelated items, while items you REALLY need will not show (despite its existance). I liked the hashtags idea, this can make a big progress but the problem might be also caused by the big diversity in languages used by designers to name or describe 3D models, especially less well-known languages.
I suggest improving the quality of search iengines, and offering translation options, maybe?
This is only my perspective, What are your points of view? Do you agree with me? Did you face any problems like what I had?

Linkle and Lana (Warehouse Transparency Issue)

@Centaur wrote:

I’ve noticed this issue for a while now, and thought it must have been reported already, but apparently not - if I’ve searched the forums properly.

Here is my recent glTF import from SketchFab as it appears in the 3D Warehouse:

LinkleAndLanaWarehouse

And here they are in the actual downloaded model:
LinkleAndLana

The differences are subtle and very difficult to spot.

The issue is that any object with any degree of transparency is simply not rendered for the 3D Warehouse images and renders by the ‘Large Hadron Collider’ WebGL engine. This includes transparency in a texture, not only transparency in basic colors.

[Bug?] Component browser not seeing all my 3D warehouse models

$

@john_mcclenahan wrote:

If I log into the 3Dwarehouse in the Chrome browser, logging in using my Google account, I see 31 models I have drawn and uploaded.

When I look in SU 2017 via the Component Browser, while logged in in SU with the same email address, I see only some of them - 12 in total.

11 of these 12 are in the two collections I have. The other one that shows in the browser is not in any collection.

But where are the other 19 models hiding? Several of them are components to which I I’d like to have ready access in the Component Browser.

I know as a workaround I can download them into a local folder and make them a new local collection.

I’ve tried logging out in SU, then logging back in again using the 3rd head-and-shoulders icon bottom left in the main SU window.

No change.

So how can I access them through the Component Browser?

PS. Some of them were drawn in earlier or much earlier versions of SU - I wondered if that might account for it. but the only item not in a collection was drawn a long time ago and IS visible, so I don’t think that’s it.

I have an old account from the early days with with which I’d uploaded a bunch of models. I’ve tried every email/password combination I can think of without luck. It might be due to a change in the accounts – I think I’d only needed a username before, not an email. Is there a moderator that can help me reclaim that account? (I’ve read @Barry has helped people in the past). Thanks!

Embed Thumbnail link

@swishstar wrote:

I was wondering how we embed a thumbnail image for a given embed iframe? For instance, when you go to your favorite model (say https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/8b335c09-bf9d-4e57-8abf-3d14fe214c7a/OCCC-N210-Empty), I see a link on the right to get the embed code for the 3D viewer. When I click on the embed code for the thumbnail, I get the same iframe for the 3D Viewer. I was hoping to get a direct url to an image that I can use in an attribute. I also tried to look at the src of the image that is displayed on the model page, but it seems to look up a different UUID instead of using the same model id.
Thanks.
