3D warehouse - strange "downloads" counting

@Lorand wrote:

Started the topic a week ago on https://blog.sketchup.com/article/3dwarehouse-materials and was required to move here.

In the last period, (since the launch of the new "grab materials" feature ?), there is something wrong with the count numbers for "downloads". First I noticed the "phenomenon" last Thursday (May 18) on a group of models I follow: the total number of downloads on that group was significantly lower than the day before.
The easiest way to observe it is by uploading an "attractive" new model and watching the "downloads": initially the counter goes up but after a while it jumps back to "0" then "reloads" a few units and goes down again ...

At this time the strange behaviour is still there both for newly uploaded and older models: the counter records some downloads and a bit later it "resets" to the "initial" value - anyone has some explanation? Thank you.

Latest :slight_smile: graph says 6 downloads, summary on the right "0"

3D Warehouse components are big

Hi all,

Certain components I download from the 3D warehouse are way too big when imported into the model. This LED is the right size, but this drumkit is about 6 metres tall.

I'm using the "woodworking" template, although surely that shouldn't make a difference.

Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks!

I want to copy and past plenty of metal decks and I may need to modify a few. But whenever I modify one component, all the other ones (the metal decks not modified) automatically get modified. How do I only modify or edit one component. Same thing happens when I resize one door that i borrowed from the 3D warehouse. Help.

Feature request: translation when search

@marcodileo wrote:

That's it. Unless you search for worldwide words like banana, Coca Cola etc, searching for 3D warehouse components requires you to search into your language, than in English (if nothing is found). Sometimes you have to open google translate in order to lookup at that word.
Could this be automated?

3D Warehouse download from external web browser into model stopped working

@eneroth3 wrote:

Last week I could grab the download link in 3D Warehouse and drag it into SketchUp. This was my primary way top use the warehouse because the external web browser has tabs, history, bookmarks etc in a way that the built in one will never have. Also it can be kept open when modeling without obstructing the view of the model.

Today when trying this SketchUp only showed me the disabled cursor when trying to drop the link on it.

Has anything changed in the warehouse or could it be an update to windows that has broken this functionality?

I'm currently using SketchUp 2016 on Win 10.

Deleting Models from "Liked" list

@SketchrUppr wrote:

I recently decided to sort out the models I've liked and create "Collections" in which to keep those models rather than have a hodge-podge of models all listed under "Liked Models."

After creating several "Collections," I noticed that models contained in a collection can be deleted or removed from a collection. I also noticed that the models I added to a collection, were still listed in "Liked Models." Until I noticed that models I had been adding to collections were still in "Liked Models," I thought I was moving those models.

I don't need models listed in both places. Why cannot models be deleted or removed from one's "Liked Models" as they can be from a "Collection?" Is that something that can be implemented?

How to get an approval to use models from 3D Warehouse?

@superman wrote:

Hello all,

I am PhD student at the University of Illinois. My research area is analyzing transportation infrastructures. I have recently come across sketch-up and I must tell you that I love it! However, when I searched if I could use the models from 3D Warehouse in the papers and books I am writing I saw this:

Can I include models from 3D Warehouse in the research project I am publishing?
Answer: No, this is impermissible aggregation. You need an approval of each developer.

So, my question is that how I can get approval from each developer? Is there a form or something? Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Thanks,
Erman

Access to or merging with an older account

@Eleflux wrote:

Hello,

I was wondering if it was possible to merge an older account or transfer the models and their associated statistics (Downloads count, collections used in, models used in, etc.) to a newer account? I was modeling some furniture in 2013 or so and was using the name MissionHobbyist2013, and would like to keep the statistics and what they have been used in if possible. I was only ever using the free version or trials thus far, but in the future I would be starting to do custom furniture/projects more, and would like to have access to my older models on the new account that is necessary to create.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can't Access Collections in 3DWH

I am unable to access the contents of any collection in the 3D warehouse directly from components browser. If I access a collection that contains other collections they show up, but any items don't appear, and if I open a "nested" collection, it doesn't show it's contents either. I'm mostly interested in the "Bonus Packs" as mentioned in http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/forum?place=msg%2F3dwh%2F7G3rCayCpX4%2Fp_Ct5ID0XHAJ
But it's just as perturbing that more recently created collections, like the "2015" variants of said bonus pack don't work either.

Only if I open the collection by clicking on it's "Name" like below does it show the contents in full.

I am using a Cellular Hotspot because the Wi-Fi is down at my place indefinitely, which may be a contributing factor, but wanted to get some additional opinions.

3d Warehouse models moving to Remix3d

@Centaur wrote:

As part of the Windows 10 Creators Update coming out in a few days, Microsoft has announced that they are partnering with Trimble to bring the Sketchup 3D Warehouse models over to Remix3d.com

I can't find any more details about this other than that announcement, anything from Trimble?

What does it mean for all those people with Sketchup accounts but no Microsoft Accounts?

Do they automatically get converted to Microsoft accounts, or do they then no longer control their own models once they have been moved/copied to remix3d.com?

I am anticipating good things to come out of this partnership (modelling in Sketchup, painting the model in Paint3d), but the lack of details is frightening.

I am looking to find a fishing rod reel seat design. I did not find one on the 3D Warehouse. I am also looking for a basic baitcasting reel design that has the matching reel mount for a seat. Thought I'd ask if there is anyplace else to search. The type of rod seat I'm looking for is like the attached image. I'm only in quest of them to develop a item design that works with these two items. The designs will be used in conjunction with that to illustrate the item.

Why Is There A 50MB Upload Limit?

@petbabyamy wrote:

strong text I have two models now that exceed the 50MB Upload limit at the SketchUp Warehouse? Why is there this limit? How am I ever going to be able to do models without any constraints? The last thing that I want is to be bogged down worrying about if my model that I am making is going to be over the 50MB limit. How can anyone focus or be creative with that hanging over their heads? Usually or how it once used to be, the warehouse would purge the model, I forget how to do this myself, because I have never needed to do that, EVER... This is not the first time that I have actual upload issues with the warehouse, though it's going a few years bacvk, I had a model of a house that I had made and added tecxtures to it and other models, like chairs etc. since I can't make that stuff myself. Anyway that was too large in KB I think. But a 50MB limit????? What Fudging heck is that about?

I'm trying vrey hard to not actually swear and know that would not be appreciated. I would appreciate knowing why this, it seems a huge drop in file size of what can be uploaded to the warehouse. How can anyone, like myself share models that are over the 50MB upload file size? Please, please help, anyone, this is stressing me out beyond mention and is getting me quite upset too.

3D Warehouse Account issues

@Rogue wrote:

I created my 3D Warehouse account years ago under Google ownership, with a gmail address (Google ID). With the rollover to the Trimble version of the warehouse, my account is only accessible under my old Google ID. Unfortunately for me I now use a new Google ID and Chrome refuses to let me sign in to the 3D Warehouse with any other ID. I am left having to use a separate browser just to sign in to the 3D Warehouse. When I go to Edit Profile im told I cannot set a new email address, etc.

My request is for the option to unlink my 3D Warehouse account from my old Google ID, so I can instead login with an email and password of my choosing.

Thanks -Ben

3D Warehouse: from Tags -> #Hashtags

$

@Barry wrote:

We're giving the Tags feature of 3D Warehouse a facelift as we evolve into the #Hashtag era. We’ll be converting tags to hashtags and doing a bit of cleanup along the way.

Phase 1:
We’re announcing the change from Tags to Hashtags, and giving 3D Warehouse users a chance to make changes to their details pages before we turn the robots loose to automatically do this for you. The details of the robots actions are listed below, and if you'd like to change any Tags before that happens, you'll have a week or two to complete that task.

Phase 2:
We'll temporarily disable the ability to add, edit or delete old style tags (circled in the image below) while our robots go to work converting tags into Hashtags.

What you should know about the conversion process:
* Single word tags (e.g. Car) will be turned into hashtags (e.g. #Car).
* Multi-Word tags will be joined with underscores (e.g. Car Door = #Car_Door)
* Any tag exceeding 30 characters will be deleted and not converted to a hashtag (e.g. This stupidly long tag phrase about race cars = #Gone #sorrynotsorry)
* Any duplicate tags will be removed (e.g. Car, Car = #Car)
* All non-alphanumeric characters will be removed (e.g. ca$hmoney = #cahmoney)
* The set of all Hashtags will be appended to the description field (see Phase 3 below).

Fig 1. The model shown above has been given the tags "Play Grow, Playground". Our migration scripts will convert the tags to #Play_Grow and #Playground
What should you do to your models before Phase 2?
If you’re happy with our automatic conversion rules, then nothing.

If, however, your preference in the example above would be for the tags to be converted to #Play and #Grow instead of #Play_Grow, then you’d need to edit your tags to be “Play, Grow, Playground” so that each word is separate.

Note that when editing your tags during PHASE 1, you SHOULD NOT include the ‘#’ symbol (caveat: unless you’re feeling frisky and want to go ahead and append #hashtags to your description text as seen in Phase 3 below).

Phase 3:
When the migration scripts have done their thing, we’ll push an update that will make the newly migrated Hashtags visible in their new location, appended to the description field; they’ll be clickable too, like they are now (see below). The old Tags box will get nuked.

Fig 2. The model shown above now displays the clickable hashtags #Play_Grow and #Playground appended to the text in the description field. The old Tags panel is gone.

Phase 4:
Users will be able to add/edit their own #hashtags (anywhere) in the description field! When you type the ‘#’ character, we’ll even have an autocomplete suggestion box that will appear and provide folks with hashtag suggestions which will hopefully help folks from making silly misspelling errors, etc.

Happy #hashtagging!

Featured artists?

@estplans25 wrote:

Hello everyone.

I use the 3D warehouse for a few years and I really appreciate it.
But I have a few questions about the featured collections and featured artists.

First point :
I'm works for building permits, and for 3D modelings of buildings, and I've never seen a featured collection of buildings. Ok agree that there is not only architecture in sketchup, but there is also architecture.

Second point :
For many months (or even years), they are always the same artists featured. Not only this, but the dates of their last works speak for me (and I don't talk about updates) :
5/10/15 - 11/26/14 - 6/29/10 - 3/9/09 - ...

Third point :
Art is a subjective thing, of course. But draw a caster wheel or a board with holes ...

So take it for a positive review, to further improve the 3D Warehouse.
Bye.

Import a compression spring from 3D warehouse and resize

Hello,

(1) I have imported a compression spring from the 3D warehouse.
But now I am not able to resize the model to the required dimensions.

(2) Furthermore, how does it work with a screw? If I resize the screw to a certain length, then the thread will end up with an undefined pitch.

Can you give me your expert view?
Cheers,
